Mathew Halpin HeadshotMatthew Halpin is a highly experienced and effective lawyer. After 37 years as counsel (litigation, arbitration and mediation), including as a senior partner at Norton Rose Fulbright Canada and litigation department head, Matthew has transitioned his practice to act exclusively as an arbitrator and mediator.

Matthew is an arbitrator and mediator primarily of commercial disputes. He has conducted ad hoc arbitrations and mediations and has appeared before the ICC’s International Court of Arbitration. He holds a certificate from University of Windsor Law in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and advanced ADR workshops, an Executive Certificate in Conflict Management, and an ADR Skills Certificate from The Advocates’ Society.

Matthew has been repeatedly recognized by Lexpert and Best Lawyers in Canada for his skills in corporate and commercial litigation and restructuring. He has acted as counsel in shareholder disputes, oppression remedies, insurance claims (including personal injury and catastrophic losses), restructuring, and insolvency, as well as real estate disputes. Matthew has appeared before Ontario trial and appellate courts, as well as the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Canada, and various administrative tribunals including the Ontario Securities Commission and the Ontario Assessment Review Board. With this experience he is an effective arbitrator and mediator in a wide range of commercial disputes.
